This bee was "robbing" nectar from Penstemon digitalis in Boone County, Missouri. Nectar robbing is a term for a floral visitor obtaining nectar while circumventing pollination. In this case, the bee cut a hole in the floral tube instead of entering the tube and contacting the anthers and stigma.
